Forklift Attachments That Expand Material Handling Capability

Forklift Attachments: How to Turn One Forklift into a Multi-Purpose Handling Machine

A forklift is normally designed to lift palletized goods. In many factories, however, materials are not always placed on standard pallets. Operators may need to lift suspended equipment, handle long products, collect scrap, move bulk materials or perform temporary elevated maintenance.

Forklift attachments allow an existing forklift to perform these specialized tasks without purchasing a completely separate machine.

The EASY LIFT range includes personnel platforms, material hoppers, fork slings, telescoping boom attachments and extended forks.

Forklift Personnel Platforms

A forklift personnel platform provides a guarded working area for approved elevated operations and maintenance tasks.

The platform includes:

  • Outward-opening access door
  • Safety pin
  • Guardrails and mesh protection
  • Non-slip platform surface
  • Drainage holes
  • Impact-protection structure
  • Long safety pins and chains for fork connection
  • Adjustable fork sockets

The adjustable and removable structure simplifies storage when the platform is not in use. Operation must always comply with local rules governing forklift-mounted work platforms and personnel lifting.

Forklift and Hand-Push Material Buckets

The YL-J150 material bucket can be connected to a forklift or pushed manually. It is mainly intended for transporting and discharging bulk material.

Its main specifications include:

  • Capacity: 150 liters
  • Bucket dimensions: 750 × 780 × 500 mm
  • Front wheel diameter: 125 × 2 mm
  • Universal wheel diameter: 125 × 1 mm
  • Fork-hole spacing: 600 mm
  • Fork-slot dimensions: 150 × 55 mm
  • Overall dimensions: 1,100 × 780 × 800 mm
  • Net weight: 103 kg

For larger volumes, automatic unloading hoppers are available with load capacities from approximately 1,000 kg to 1,800 kg and volumes from 0.25 m³ to 0.38 m³.

The automatic hopper returns and locks when the forklift forks return to an upright position. A release cable allows the operator to activate unloading without manually approaching the front of the hopper.

Forklift Lifting Hooks and Fork Slings

A fork sling converts forklift forks into a suspended lifting point. This is useful for molds, machines, motors and other loads that cannot be handled safely on a pallet.

The attachment includes a rotatable hook, safety lock and locking studs for securing it to the forks.

A lifting hook must be selected according to both the attachment capacity and the remaining forklift capacity at the actual load center.

Telescoping Boom Fork Slings

A telescoping boom attachment increases horizontal reach and allows a forklift to act as a compact mobile crane.

The YLA01 horizontal telescoping boom offers multiple extension positions. According to the catalog, the boom length ranges from approximately 720 mm to 3,495 mm. Rated capacity decreases from approximately 3,000 kg at the shortest position to 626 kg at maximum extension.

This reduction is important. Extending the boom moves the load center farther away from the forklift mast, increasing the overturning moment even when the suspended load itself does not change.

The boom includes:

  • Rotatable hook with safety lock
  • Two locking studs
  • Heavy-duty securing chains
  • Multiple extension positions
  • Long-reach configuration for containers and inaccessible areas

Tilt-angle and rotary models are also available. The angle-adjustable design allows the boom to operate at several working positions, while the rotary version provides additional flexibility for different lifting directions.

Extended Fork Attachments

Fork extensions are designed for longer or oversized pallets. EASY LIFT EX-series open fork extensions are manufactured from 8 mm steel plate and include open-bottom installation channels and welded end clamps.

Available extension lengths range from approximately 1,219 mm to 2,590 mm, with versions for original fork widths of 100 mm, 125 mm and 150 mm.

The catalog specifies several important precautions:

  • Extension length should not exceed 150% of the original fork length.
  • The attachment should be installed only with the forklift manufacturer’s approval.
  • The original forks must meet the minimum required length.
  • Remaining load capacity must be recalculated according to load center, lifting height and fork extension.
  • Both extensions must be installed as a matched pair.

Because forklift capacity decreases as the load center moves forward, fork extensions should never be treated as a way to increase the forklift’s rated capacity.

Advantages of Forklift Attachments

Forklift attachments can help companies:

  • Reduce the number of specialized machines required
  • Handle non-palletized and suspended loads
  • Improve utilization of existing forklifts
  • Shorten material-handling processes
  • Adapt quickly to changing production requirements
  • Reduce manual handling of irregular loads

Important Selection Considerations

Before selecting an attachment, confirm the forklift capacity, fork dimensions, carriage structure, load center and intended working height.

The combined weight of the attachment and load must remain within the forklift’s residual capacity. For boom attachments and fork extensions, capacity must be evaluated at every working position rather than only at the shortest setting.

Correct attachment selection can significantly increase forklift flexibility, but safe operation always depends on matching the attachment to the forklift and the actual load.
